Enjoy the city

Como is a historic city: the first traces of it on the lake established by Julius Caesar date back to 59 BC. Como is a city of art, the old town features elements from its roman and medieval past, religious buildings and palaces coexist with modern buildings. A lavish array of luxury houses with beautiful gardens overlook the lakeside promenade. We suggest visiting the city on foot or with the convenient bike sharing service.

Como is a city of culture and music. Events such as the “Festival Como città della Musica”, “Lake Como film festival”, “Como Live” take place all year round. You can also enjoy the reading event “Parolario”, the drama season at the local theatre Teatro Sociale, the garden show “Orticolario” and spend and evening at the “Light Festival”. Between the end of August and September you can take part at the re-enactment of the Palio del Baradello and the celebration for the patron saint Sant’Abbondio. At Christmas time, the “Città dei Balocchi” enlivens the center with many activities coupled with the illuminations covering all the main monuments.

Enjoy the lake

A tour of the Lake is a must. The boat is the best way to see the full landscape from a privileged point of view.

Lake Como is famous worldwide for its luxury villas and gardens. The most famous ones are Villa Carlotta in Tremezzina, Villa Serbelloni, Villa Melzi in Bellagio and Villa del Balbianello on Lenno’s promontor (FAI property).
In front of Ossuccio we find the only Lario’s island, Isola Comacina, with its old traditions celebrated annually at the end of June at San Giovanni Festival.

To enjoy a breathtaking view, we suggest you take the cable car that connects Como to Brunate, the so-called “balcony of the Alps” and then continue (on foot or by shuttle) towards San Maurizio where the Voltiano Lighthouse is located.

And if it’s not enough you can enjoy an even wider and panoramic view by flying with a seaplane on the first basin of the lake. The Aero Club Como organizes 30-minute tours for 2/4 people (you need to book your tour a few days in advance).

If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, the mountain surroundings offer many hiking and climbing opportunities for everyone. One international attraction for those who love walking is the Greenway of Lake Como, but there are easier walks in the Parco della Spina Verde, between Como and Brunate and across the Lariano Triangle.

In the warmer seasons, the lake is also a place to relax, swim and practice watersports: there are public beaches and private ones for a dive, many possibilities for surfing, kite surfing, sailing and wakeboarding…. you really can’t get bored!
